The rights to a second edition of “Miracles of Hope: Surviving and Thriving in the 21st Century” have been bought back - one of the many twists and turns the book has taken on its journey. Having gone into a state of dormancy, it will now be resurrected as it is even more relevant today than it was four years ago when it was first published by White Rock Publishers.

I have recently met the most amazing people! People who are working tirelessly to change the world and save the planet - in one notable case despite death threats for exposing the unacceptable! Meeting these people has reinforced for me the understanding that saviours often don’t come gift wrapped and indeed the least outwardly preposessing people are often the ones with the greatest contribution or the most missionary spirit!

With the first feature (Food Security) in the Cape Argus Sustainability Series under my belt, I am now starting to work on the second feature which is going to be about Energy Security. It is an enormous and enormously complex subject, however as it is so important to our future wellbeing as a species, I cannot complete the Series without giving it due attention. This Series is a natural progression from the book as the readership (374 000 and counting!) is great. So wish me luck please!

I have this amazing feeling about 2007! I feel that it is going to be a year of personal transformation and high success and that many of the seeds that have been planted over so many tough years, will begin to really bear fruit!! How wonderful if this should be so!!!

My promises for the year are to take my work to another level - To continue working with the highest degree of integrity of which I am capable. To extend my personal boundaries in terms of competencies and experiences. To live without fear and with great love. To start writing another book.

I was struck by this book, maybe it was because I recently went to the premier of Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth” which injects a much-needed urgency and reality into the issue of global warming. This book was like the next step to realisation for me, the “Bible” to go with the commercial outreach movie, expanding one’s perspective on the importance of the natural world, as well as providing a deeper understanding of the extent to which we have devastated our planet and its inhabitants, leaving us little time. Nevertheless, this is not a book all about doom and gloom - quite the opposite. It is a book about hope; a hope that is the key to our survival and one that should concern everyone. The third part of the book delves into an optimism that takes its strength from the changes happening all over the world in the minds, hearts and actions of people who believe our future is worth fighting for. We are the ones who keep hope alive and books like this spur us on and guide us to where we all need to be heading. A worthy read and an investment for the future in so many ways.

I was so inspired by this documentary as it illustrated the danger facing humankind and the planet in the most visceral way! What a pity that Al Gore was pipped at the US presidency election post. The world would be a very different place today if he had got in as US President. But then perhaps the work he is doing in alerting people around the world to the dangers of climate change and rising global mean temperatures would not have been done …
